Dave’s Bike (TriCross)
The number of hits releated to TriCross Reviews has been increasing weekly, so I will try to compile some more useful “review” data. Currently I have only praise, while a few have made comments about the fork problems….see more below.
Justin and Peko have Vin as a bike guy. Dave is becoming MY bike guy, and the Bicycle Warehouse my store of choice. — Thanks for all your expertise Dave … my checkbook is the only one that hates you.
Everything below are items from the Bike Warehouse. Feel free to ask me questions about anything below….

Specialized TriCross Comp
- Really starting to love this bike. Comfortable on the long rides and absorbs what the road throws at you well.
- Although slightly heavier than a more race designed bike, the advantages are present through the ride comfort. I chose the tricross to provide the ability to log road miles and also for the durabilty to be used as a commuter bike.
- To date I have 650 miles logged and absolultley no problems.
- I chose the 58 cm over the 56 cm, and would suggest staying with the smaller frame if you are in-between. When demoing it, the 58 cm felt like a much better fit, but after putting on some real miles and settling in, it feels a hair too big at times.
- Since it is a cyclo-cross bike, I am exploring the option of entering some cyclocross events this winter. Any tips or suggestions are welcome.
- Several people have emailed me and commented (see below) about problems with the front fork, mostly with the 06 model from what I’ve been able to tell. I haven’t had any problems and hope not to as the front fork is one of favorite visual aspects of the Tricross.
Enough room for a tube, tools, and a couple of bars.- A pump can also be slide though a loop on the rear.
Only used this bag for one race, but worked perfect.- Not to large and lots of different types of storage options.
- The expansion zipper makes fitting a jacket in…a breeze.
These fenders do NOT fit on the TriCross. I haven’t figured out a retro-fit solution yet.- If anyone knows a brand that does fit out of the box, please let me know. So far I’ve had no luck.
- The tricross has all the connections points, but the fork and rearstay are larger than standard.
Installs clean and easy.- Tough to read at night and would be nice to be able to toggle the large and small #’s.
An opinion is still out on these….- The interchanging lenses are nice for rides that start before daylight.
I LOVE these. On the 400K my feet never went numb or got sore. I was really surprised at the difference these made.- These can make average bike shoes much better by replacing the footbed. It has an easy to follow guide to help determine foot type and how to correctly align.
Holding up well, hate riding w/o them.
So far works well for me, but I don’t need much light.
Its red

Does your Tricross shake when using your front brake? I’ve had mine for about a month… I’ve even had my fork swapped out and it still does it.

Not that I specifcally remember or have noticed. I’ll take it for a spin tonight to see if I notice anything. Dumb question, but is your front brake tightly secured to the fork?

No shake from the front brake.

Hhm. I have an S-works fork (‘06 version) on the way that is supposed to correct the violent shaking that I have when using the front brake. I hope that does it, as it will be my third fork, including the original.

Got the ‘06 S-works fork installed and the problem is gone! The bike rides and brakes beautifully now! I’m very pleased.

My front fork shakes terribly (on a 2007 Tricross Sport) unless I make the front brake cable very tight. As soon as it gets a bit loose, it starts shaking again. Eric, how did you find out that the ‘06 S-works fork is supposed to correct it? The LBS where I got the bike are totally uninterested in the problem.

LBS called Specialized factory techs on multiple occassions. Hope they get it fixed for you.

I have exactly this kind of fenders mounted in exactly this kind of bike

The front fork shakes violently unless the front brake is applied very lightly (not good when emergency braking is needed). Changed to an ‘06 Tricross Comp fork from the original ‘06 Sport fork. The problem seems to getting worse as the mileage on the fork increases. Ready to buy a fork from a different manufacturer — or a new bike.

Did you have to modify them? I could/can make them fit but not w/o tweaking them significantly.

Someone said that there’s too much vertical length in the brake cable and the resonance moves to the fork. Some have replaced their stock brakes with a linear-pull brake (I think that’s what it’s called) and this eliminated the problem. FWIW, all is still well on my new fork even as the miles add up.
