The Road to PBP (and other stuff)

After Justin learned about PBP and decided it was a good idea, phase 1 of the plan involved convincing Dave to do it. Sure he was already training to run the San Diego marathon in June, and sure he had never ridden a road bike before, but I knew he wouldn’t want to miss out. We started working on him during the Whistler trip in March (which I cleverly mention here to allow me to post a Whistler slide show). The final touch was to give him a copy of A Year of Adventures: Lonely Planet’s Guide to Where, What and When to do it with page 138 bookmarked. This book has all kinds of crazy suggestions for your next trip from “Volcano board at Mt Yasur” to “North Pole Marathon” to “View Turtles on Masirah.” (Come to think of it, there are a surprising number of turtle-watching entries — Lonely Planet must have a turtlephile on their staff …) In any case, the PBP entry on page 138 starts out “Why now? Grab the chance, for it comes around only once every four years.” We knew he wouldn’t be able to resist.
